What’s in the Steelathlon packet?

Each packet includes a bib and timing chip, t-shirt, and several Youngstown goodies. The bib and timing chips are used to track each racer's time. The time will be posted on the internet within 4 hours of the finish of the race.

Where can I pick up my packet?

Packet pickup will be from 8:00 to 10:00 AM on the morning of the race at the Covelli Centre. We may also have a picket pickup the night before. If we do, we will notify you through our website, Facebook, and our newsletter.

Do I have to be in good shape?

Not at all. You always have the option of skipping obstacles or even stopping, however you must take a penalty of 25 stomach crunches before moving on. Though this prevents taking home a prize, it won’t prevent taking home some side-splitting memories. Obstacle races are as much about fun as competition. If you do want to be competitive though, be sure to visit our Training Tips page.

What prizes are there?

Prizes will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group as well as the top 3 male and female finishers overall.

How should I dress?

The ideal shorts are somewhat form-fitting, nonabsorbent, and, if drawstring, tied tightly. When it comes to socks, go with high ones that may save your ankles and calves from rope burns.

What should I carry?

Definitely not your car keys, or anything else that may fall out of your pockets during the obstacles.

How early should I arrive to the Steelathlon?

You are encouraged to arrive at least 45 minutes before your start time.

What’s a winning strategy?

If there are staggered starts, try to get in an early heat before the course gets trampled. In the same vein, burst out of the gate and try to be the first to each obstacle. This will keep you from having to wait while Granny Jones trundles across the next obstacle.

How much does it cost?

Depends on how soon you sign up! Click on the ‘Sign up’ link to get all the details.

How do I sign up?

How old do I have to be?

You can participate at any age. However, if you are under the age of 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian.

Do I have to register in advance?

No. You can register up to the same day as the race. However, it costs more and you may not get a T-shirt. The earlier you register, the better!

Where can I pick up my Steelathlon packet?

Packet Pick-Up will be on race day only, and begins at 8:00 am in Federal Plaza.

What happens if I sign up but can’t make it on race day?

You can transfer your registration to someone else at no extra cost. You cannot get a refund.

Do spectators have to pay to watch?

Definitely not! We encourage all of your family and friends to come cheer you on.

What should I bring on race day?

When you pick up your packet, you will be given a bib and a chip timer. Make sure you have both of those on you for the race. There will be one water station set up during the race and water will be provided after the race as well.

What if I can’t finish or don’t feel well during the race?

You do not have to finish the race. At any time during the race you can choose to stop and walk back to the Covelli Centre. Volunteers will be located throughout the race and they will be willing to help you in any way.

Where should I park?

You can park in the Covellie Centre parking lot or any legal available spot close to the Federal Plaza.

Will there be mud or water in the course?

No. No mud and no water unless in rains... but the race will go on rain or shine.
